Dementia

Senile Dementia is defined as the deterioration
of intellectual faculties, such as memory, concentration, and
judgment, resulting from either an organic disease or brain
disorder. It can be linked with emotional disturbance and personality
changes. The most well known type of dementia is Alzheimer's
disease. It accounts for 60 percent of all cases of dementia.

Common symptoms of Alzheimer include:

Gradual memory loss.

Problems with reasoning or judgment.

Disorientation.

Difficulty in learning.

Loss of language skills.
-
Decline in one's ability to perform routine
tasks.
Common types and causes of dementia include:

Degenerative neurological diseases: Alzheimer's.

Dementia with lewy bodies: Parkinson's,
and Huntington's .

Vascular disorders: multiple-infarct dementia,
caused by multiple brain strokes.

Infections that affect the central nervous
system: HIV dementia and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.

Chronic drug use.

Depression .
-
Certain types of hydrocephalus(accumulation
of fluid in the brain) which can result from developmental
abnormalities, infections, injury, or brain tumours.
