Description of Properties:
Quinoa is a seed that has been harvested in the fields of The Andes (Peru and Bolivia) over the past 3.000 years. Known as the "mother grain" by the ancient Incas, the nutritional quality of this crop has been compared to that of dried whole milk by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. The protein quality and quantity in quinoa seed is often superior to those of more common cereal grains. Quinoa is higher in lysine than wheat, and the amino acid content of quinoa seed is considered well-balanced for human nutrition.
Iron deficiency can cause iron-deficiency anemia which, depending on its severity, may induce a state of lethargy (reduced capacity for work) and fatigue, learning difficulties, growth and development-related problems, depression, palpitations, low resistance to infections and an increase in morbidity (diseases) and maternal mortality rates, especially during childbirth.
Folic acid is a group-B vitamin with vital functions, as it participates in the formation of normal red blood cells and contributes to preventing birth defects related to the brain and to the spinal cord. Its presence in appropriate quantities is necessary for the healthy development of the fetus. It has neuroprotective qualities, but it is also a cardiovascular protector as it contributes to the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
Vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin which plays an important role in metabolism, in the assimilation of iron, the formation of red blood cells, and the maintenance of the Central Nervous System. Low levels of vitamin B12 may cause anemia, likewise numbness or tingling in the extremities, as well as other neurological symptoms such as weakness, loss of memory and loss of balance. Vitamin B12 is considered a neuroprotector.
