The
Team

Mr.
Rocha has under his belt more than 15 years of international expansion
management experience. He joined ebiotec in 2003 and under his
leadership the company is establishing itself in Japan, Mexico,
the Czech republic, Slovakia, United Kingdom, Germany and Oman.
He has also successfully negotiated and managed a variety of national
joint scientific venture agreements and industrial contracts,
which have lead to the development of an upcoming novel line of
functional foods. His areas of interest lie in the field of research
and development of novel diagnostic products and the corporate
internationalisation through strategic transfer of technology
projects. |

A
graduate in International Business, Ms Capdevila has been involved
in the field of international commerce for over 10 years. With
working experience in North America, Europe and the Middle East,
Ms Capdevila has successfully collaborated in foreign direct investment
projects, joint ventures and turn-key operations in the Middle
East. At ebiotec, she participated in the establishment of ebiotec-uk
and ebiotec-oman as well as the international launching of nutraceuticals
and diagnostic services. She is currently studying for her MBA
in biotech management. |

Mr.
Quesada has worked in the pharmaceutical field for more than 25
years leading the marketing , communications and commercial development
of both American and European corporations. Mr Quesada’s
interests are focused towards the psychology of communication
& advertising in the health sector. Since his arrival to ebiotec
, Mr Quesada has been actively involved in the commercial launching
of ebiotec’s nutraceuticals in Spain and their positioning
as novel health products. |

Dr.
Valter R.M. Lombardi obtained his BSc in La Sapienza University
(Rome), MSc in Science focused on HIV mother to child transmission
at the University of Stockholm and PhD in HIV infections at the
University of Tor Vergata (Rome). From 1987 to 1991 he worked
at the Department of Immunology at the eminent Karolinska Insitutet.
With more than 25 years of experience his main strengths lie in
molecular biology techniques as well as animal husbandry. He has
been the director of Ebiotec’s Biotechnology Department
for the past ten years in where he has authored and co-authored
in many international publications and participated in more than
10 international and national projects. His work is currently
focused on apoptosis of CNS cells |

Dr.
Fernandez-Novoa completed her medical training at the University
of Santiago de Compostela. Soon after, she was awarded a research
fellowship at the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics at
the University of Pennsylvania, in where she researched the biochemistry
of brain neurotransmissions. She joined the EuroEspes group in
1995 and has been head of the Department of Clinical Genetics
and Genomics since 1998. To date, she has written and participated
in numerous research publications in the field of the genetics
of neurodegenerative disorders. She is currently finalizing her
PhD in the histaminergic system of Alzheimer’s disease |

Dr.
Carril studied at the university of Santiago de Compostela where
he completed his PhD in population genetics . Since then he has
worked for leading laboratories in the field of forensics, criminal
genetics, & paternity DNA screening . He has also led international
projects involving technology transfer in Panama and El Salvador
as well as providing technical consultancy services to the Spanish
Law Enforcement Agencies. He is currently conducting research
in the study of human genetic evolution in migratory population
applied to ancestry DNA testing. He is an active member of the
international society of forensic genetics. |

Mr.
Pereira brings more than 10 years experience in the field of marine
biology. During his years with the Spanish Oceanographic Institute
he conducted research on the sustainable exploitation of the European
fishing reserves. He joined the department of marine biology in
2004 in where he was the lead initiator of the ebiosea project.
The ebiosea project focuses on the ethical marine bioprospecting
of the Cantabrian sea as well as the commercialisation of active
marine biomolecules that can be applied to human and animal health.
To this date, he has catalogued more than 500 marine species and
is working in the patenting of 10 new active compounds in the
next 5 years. |

Dr.
Vallejo has more than 6 years experienced in the field of nutrition.
A former Professor of the University of the Basque Country, she
focused her research in the hepatic influence of corticoids and
receptor-related gastric acid secretion. At ebiotec she leads
clinical research of the nutritional benefits of marine nutraceuticals
and their application as diet supplements and functional foods.
Moreover she is collaborating with the clinical genetics department
in order to assess the role of nutrigenetics in the prevention
of complex genetic disorders. She has co-authored 15 international
papers as well as collaborating in more than 25 congresses and
seminars. |

Mr.
Alejo has more than 20 years experience in the field of pharmaceutical
manufacturing, product development and commercialization, successfully
entering markets in North America and Europe. He’s also
been involved in technology transfer projects in South America,
USA and UK, making him an expert in this field. Since his arrival
to ebiotec he has been involved in the development of more than
5 international patents and is currently leading research in
the development of non-perishables via industrial lyophilization.
His areas of interest include the commercialisation of marine
biomolecules i.e. nutraceuticals, functional foods and the commercial
applications of industrial lyophilization to the food industry.
